Moving into a new home is fun and exciting. Well, it is until you think about moving all your stuff. COListings is not only dedicated to help make your home buying and selling easier, but can also offer these tips to help make your move less daunting.
You will most likely be exhausted and will not have the energy to unpack everything right away. Be sure to pack the essentials like pajamas, a change of clothing and toiletries for easy access.
DAY ONE BIN
Packing the items you know you need first in a clear bin will ensure you don’t have to go digging through box after box. Box cutters, trash bags, disposable plates and utensils, toilet paper, tools, phone charges, coffee cups and bath towels are a few items that will be useful right away.
WRAPPING FRAGILE ITEMS
Consider wrapping breakables in clean clothing instead of bubble wrap. You will be packing and wrapping at the same time.
In addition to labeling what is in each box, make sure to label the room you want it taken to. Pick a color code for each room and label those boxes accordingly. Label boxes on the sides so you can identify the boxes even when stacked. Moving boxes just once and unpacking by room will speed up and ease up your move.
Whether you have a few helpers or a hired crew, having them show up at the new home to deep clean before you start unloading boxes will make moving in cleaner and easier.
WRAP IT UP
Instead of wasting time and boxes packing up drawers, consider stretch wrapping them. Items will stay in place and will stay clean. Press’n Seal is also great for packing loose jewelry to prevent tangling or misplacement.
Sandwich bags are great for keeping hardware, screws and cords organized. Label each bag and tape it the corresponding item.
TAKE A PICTURE
Taking a photo of how electronics are hooked up will make reconnecting easier.
LUGGAGE AND BASKETS
Using luggage, laundry baskets and hampers to pack things will cut down on the boxes you will need to buy and move.
PACKING YOUR CLOSET
Using trash bags to transport clothing allows you to keep items together, keeps them clean and you don’t have to remove any hangers.
CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS
Remember to change your address 2 weeks before you move so everything gets forwarded to your new home before you move out.
