It's no Hollywood, but Colorado has a handful of celebrity residents. These celebrities have made Colorado their (usually second or third) home. Check out what several million can buy you amidst the Aspen trees and mountain peaks.
Tom Cruise’s Alpine Estate
Tom Cruise bought the spectacular property at 115 Francisco Way back in 1990, and built a seven bedroom, nine bath, single family home in 1994. But he won’t own it for much longer. According to Telluride Sotheby’s International Realty, he’s selling his little slice of heaven, just 12 minutes from historic downtown Telluride, for an estimated $59 million. When you check those views, that price seems about right.
Oprah’s Mountain Mega Mansion
Tom Cruise might be selling his Telluride, Colorado, home, but Oprah Winfrey recently purchased 60 acres in Telluride for $10.85 million. The property is just off Rocky Road and accessible only via Galloping Goose ski trail. In fact, in May of last year she was sued by a retired physicist concerned that Winfrey’s “planned mega-mansion” would block access to hiking trails that residents have enjoyed for years. The lawsuit was later dismissed. (Everyone knows, you can't beat Oprah!) And sources say, Winfrey plans to build a mansion and guest house on the property.
Kevin Costner’s Aspen Ranch
The film actor, director and producer found his property just outside Aspen, Colorado, in the early ’90s. It's only five minutes from all the swank and pomp of downtown Aspen, but it feels much farther away. For over a decade, Costner continued buying up parcels of land surrounding his property. He now has a 165-acre ranch he calls home and has said he loves it so much, he wants to be buried there.
Ralph Lauren’s All-American Spread
Ralph Lauren’s estate sits in a valley beneath the San Juan Mountains. The ranch includes a four-bedroom main lodge, three guest tepees, a 1960s silver Airstream trailer, also for guest lodging, and several outbuildings, many that were built by the original homesteaders. Each area, decorated with pieces from Ralph Lauren’s collections and authentic antiques, looks rugged and homey, just like a mountain retreat should.
John Elway’s Humble Home
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning, Denver’s beloved John Elway. He and his wife Paige still live in the home they bought over 20 years ago, a 15,000 square foot house in Cherry Hills, Colorado. It may be huge, but it has a casual, laid-back ambiance that we associate with this football great.
